Artemisa

Artemisa is a Cuban municipality, containing the capital city of the province of Artemisa. Before 2011, it was one of the 19 municipalities and the largest and most populated in the former Province of Havana. Artemisa belonged to the province of Havana from 1970 to 2010. From 1878 (the date the provinces in Cuba were created) until 1969 it belonged to the Province of Pinar del Río. The current economy of Artemisa rests on agriculture (fruits, various crops, rice, sugar cane), cattle and pig farming, the cement industry and other construction materials (fibrocement, terrazzo), tobacco production, textile manufacturing, pesticides and preserves.
