The colonial and historical city of Trinidad or Villa de la Santísima Trinidad is located in the central region of the island, specifically in the south of the Cuban province of Sancti Spíritus, and is the capital of the municipality of the same name. The Villa de la Santísima Trinidad was the third town founded by the Spanish Crown in Cuba, probably at the beginning of 1514. Although there is no exact date of its foundation, it is believed to have occurred in the period between December 23, 1513, date of the first mass in Trinitarian lands on January 4, 1514, the date on which its foundation is officially celebrated. The town was founded with the presence of Adelantado Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, and it evolved rapidly, which made it possible to be one of the most prosperous in the largest of the Antilles. In the mountainous area the predominant vegetation is semi-natural, because it has been mostly replanted, made up of forests, bushes and grasslands, although in Topes de Collantes, we find submontane mesophilic forests, evergreen and semi-deciduous or semi-deciduous.
